Your family is your inner circle—the people you should turn to in tough times, but also the people who turn to YOU for the same reason. 

Imagine a family life that’s peaceful . . . happy . . . balanced.

• Enjoy dinner as a family at least three nights this week (without cell phones)
• Establish a calm morning routine for you & your family
• Set boundaries with your argumentative sibling

In my continuing series about calming the overwhelm and creating balance in all 7 major areas of life, can we talk about a significant pain point for most people?

Yeah, it’s . . . money.

If lately you’ve been stressed over credit card debt, fighting with your life partner about household spending, or worried about how you’re going to pay your bills, you could probably use a lot more balance in the area of finances. 

Of course, the recent economic upheaval hasn’t helped. 

But the reality is that some people sail through tough economic times with a healthy emergency fund, little to no debt, a side hustle that pays household expenses, and a lifestyle they can dial down at a moment’s notice. 

For others, an economic crisis like this one is a wake-up call that their finances may not have been great to begin with.

If the past year has been an eye-opener for you, why not consider what you can do today to bring balance to your finances. 

Could you . . .

• Slash your expenses to absolutely necessary costs only?
• Sell unused items on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace?

Be Accountable for Your Financial Future

While a dire financial situation may seem impossible to deal with now, solid finances are possible if you create a plan and focus on making small steps regularly. 

👉 Write down all your debts and start paying them off, starting with the smallest one. 

👉 Start a second income stream to fund savings or retirement. 

👉 Get investment help from a professional financial planner you trust. 

👉 Talk with your spouse and kids about cutting back and saving up until you’re feeling better about your finances.

👉 Then, seriously consider working with me privately to set financial goals and be accountable for reaching them.

It’s already February, and if you celebrated New Year’s Day with a resolution to get healthier in 2021, I have a question: 

Have you stayed on track with your fitness goals? 

No?  Well, you’re definitely not alone.

Many resources point to the 2nd or 3rd week of February as when most people – 
I’m talking 80% of people – 
give up on their “resolutions”. 
Working in the gym environment as a Personal Trainer for over 20 years,  I have witnessed the reality of this myself – massive crowds until about Valentines Day. ðŸ˜” 

One of the best outcomes of creating a balanced life is enjoying the basics: adequate sleep, nutritious food, time for exercise—plus bandwidth to manage or improve longstanding conditions that cause pain, embarrassment or anxiety. 

But, here’s the good news - you don’t have to arrive at the “ideal life” to enjoy vibrant well-being. 
Simply starting the journey toward being fit and healthy will boost your energy, immunity and brain function. 
And something as simple as a daily walk around the neighborhood delivers noticeable results.

Find Balance in an Unbalanced World


Why does life seem so overwhelming? 

We set goals and have good intentions, but there never seems to be enough time, money or energy for achieving life’s biggest goals.  Instead of making progress, our lives seem even more out of balance. 
Sound familiar? 

Well, for the next few weeks, I’d like to help you overcome the overwhelm and work on achieving balance in every major life category. 

How will we do that? 

Using a strategy I learned from Dr. Dave Braun and Dr. Troy Amdahl, authors of the bestselling book, Oola: Find Balance in an Unbalanced World: identify where you’re out of balance, then jot down three tasks a day that will move you toward balance in that area (or areas) of your life.

Here’s an example:

If your finances are a mess and credit card debt is causing you extra stress, your to-do list might look like this:

1. Make a list of all debts in order of total amount due
2. Make an extra payment (today) on the smallest debt while still making minimum payments on the others
3. Research ways to make extra money to pay off all debt

START TODAY: IDENTIFY WHERE YOU ARE OUT OF BALANCE

You CAN overcome the overwhelm. 
To start, identify your biggest stressor in each of “The 7 F’s of Oola” (below). 
Write down your list in a journal or on your smartphone, so you can refer back to it. 
Are you out of balance in:

Fitness: Excess weight? Poor nutrition? Minimal exercise?
Finance: Crushing debt? No retirement plan? Too much month at the end of the money?
Family: Need to set some boundaries? Marriage on life support? 
Field: Career stress? Low pay or benefits? Unfulfilled?
Faith: No real relationship with God? Need a daily practice?
Friends: Toxic friends that bring you down? Need mentors?
Fun: No time for fun? Waiting until you’re older or retired?  

Whatever is stressing you, let’s work together to completely transform your life into one of balance, growth and purpose.
