MAXIMIZE WELLNESS. Are your body and mind ready to show up for your exciting future? Part 2

Pursuing an exciting future takes focus and stamina.

Listen...it requires energy to clean up the messes, make new plans, and pursue new paths.
You’ll probably spend lots of mental energy moving outside your comfort zone, too—plus extra physical energy making the changes you want—so your body (and mind) needs to show up fully to support you in this effort.

You’ll also want to be fit to enjoy your new life once you get there. Right?
So what can you do?

Work on your overall wellness—both physical and mental.

Whether you’re a couch potato or seasoned triathlete, the point is to choose more nutrient-rich foods, work out more regularly and effectively, and consume less “junk” – internally AND externally.

That means not only putting healthy food in your belly, but also putting healthy thoughts in your mind.

These 7 tips will get you started on the path to a healthy lifestyle, more energy, and an inner mindset that can handle the overwhelm with ease.

Tip #1  Keep it simple.
Gimmicks and quick fixes are not legitimate substitutes for common sense, good (balanced) nutrition, and regular physical activity. Most people know the basics: eat less than you burn or burn more than you eat in a balanced way that supports your hormones.
It’s also common sense that getting adequate sleep and regular exercise not only improves your mood, it boosts your energy, enhances your confidence, and keeps your body functioning at its best.
When you look good, you feel good—and that kind of sparkle is hard to resist!

Tip #2  Find out what’s toxic for you.
Consider starting an “elimination diet” and eat clean for three to six weeks.
Originally designed to identify foods that may be causing allergic and digestive reactions, the Elimination Diet recommends consuming only healthy vegetables, fruits, and protein at first (i.e., eliminating the junk), and then reintroducing potentially “problem foods” such as gluten, dairy, soy, refined sugar, caffeine and alcohol—one at a time—to see which (if any) are causing you problems like indigestion, skin flare-ups, insomnia, migraines, lack of focus, low energy, and more.
A nice byproduct of this diet is the mental clarity and boost in energy the body delivers as it clears out the toxins and heals past inflammation.
Weight loss may also be a positive “side-effect”.

Tip #3  Drink more good, clean water.
Pretty simple, huh?
But, unlike bottled drinks, sodas, coffees, and other liquids, purified/filtered water helps hydrate your cells. This helps your cells clear out the toxins and debris your body is trying to get rid of on its path to wellness.
As toxins are eliminated, your body will need fewer and fewer fat cells to store the toxins away from vital organs and will get more efficient at absorbing nutrients that keep your body healthy and your immune system strong.

Tip #4  Work harder.
As our bodies adapt to exercise—and especially as we get older—it seems harder and harder to stay in shape. Metabolism slows or adapts to what you’ve been doing and the same three miles you’ve been walking for years suddenly don’t deliver the same benefits as before.
That’s why you have to continually up your game.
Move a little faster, walk a little farther, and add a new activity like HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), swimming, resistance training or yoga.
Mix it up and your body will respond again.

Tip #5  Meditate.
Daily meditation (or mindfulness) can help you get clear on what you should be doing in specific situations. New research says meditation also improves brain function, mood, creativity and may even counteract loss of brain volume as we age.
Hundreds of books and audio meditations exist to help you create a daily meditation habit. Why not do some research, find one that resonates with you, and give it a try?

Tip #6  Focus on your mental health.
Depression, anxiety and other conditions can get in the way of an awesome life.
While they can generally be helped by daily exercise, good nutrition, meditation and an overall healthier lifestyle, sometimes these conditions need to be addressed head on—by a professional—as part of your wellness journey.

Tip #7 Be consistent.
In pursuing your goals, be consistent in your efforts and patient with yourself as you make progress.
Resist comparing yourself to others and don’t criticize yourself if you fall away from your plan.
Just hop back on and restart.
Be sure to plan some cheat days once in a while to keep things real.

Of course, working on your health and fitness is only a part of the process of creating overall balance in your life.  There’s also your finances, family, career, faith, friends and fun-time to consider.
The key is to decide what you want in these areas, make some goals, and stay accountable to taking daily action steps that will bring you closer to those desired results.

Working with a coach can help keep you on track and accountable to those daily action steps.

MAXIMIZE WELLNESS. Are your body and mind ready for your exciting future? Part 1

“Wear a mask and social distance.” Unfortunately, we’ve been hearing that for waaaay too long now.

But while we’re all aware of the (so-called) global health crisis right now, have you considered ways to improve your overall health and create a life with less stress?

One thing I’ve learned from the Oola Lifestyle Formula—detailed in the bestselling Oola book series by Dave Braun and Troy Amdahl—is that we should all get back to basics: adequate sleep, nutritious food & good, clean water, regular exercise, plus taking the time to handle longstanding conditions that cause pain, embarrassment or anxiety.

I believe the future ahead of you is exciting. You need your mind and body to be ready for it.

Just starting the journey toward being fit and healthy delivers increased energy, immunity and brain function. Even a simple, daily walk around the neighborhood brings noticeable results.

So what’s one step you could take toward better health and fitness?

Could you . . .

• Cut out the sugar from your diet starting today?

• Start drinking water instead of coffee and bottled drinks?

• Book a checkup for that annoying health condition?

• Plan a healthy dinner, then take a 45-minute walk?

If you’ve already resolved to improve your health or fitness level in some way, why not use the best-kept secret of top achievers: coaching.
Of all the things successful people do to accelerate their path to the healthy, balanced and financially secure lifestyle they want, working with a coach is at the top of the list.

The Oola Coaching Program is the formula I’ve discovered that has transformed not only my life, but the lives of countless people around the world.  It will help you define the goals you want to achieve, then keep you accountable to doing those things every day to bring about those desired outcomes.

I promise, once you discover this proven lifestyle framework, you will live differently - always looking through the "lens of Oola".

Now’s your chance to work with me (together with the OolaGuys) every week to find balance and calm the chaos in major life areas like finances, fitness, family, field (career) and more.

MONEY STRESS. It’s time to calm the chaos in your finances. Part 2

Need more cash-flow to tackle your finances?

Last time, we talked about working hard to “de-clutter” your credit card bills—by cancelling unused services and returning leased equipment, for instance.
Congratulations on beginning the process of restoring sanity in your finances!

Unfortunately, decluttering and economizing will only get you so far. Some people simply need to bring in more cash.

If you’re self-employed, this may be easy for you: either take on more work, or negotiate higher rates for your products and services by educating the client or customer on the higher value of what you have to offer.

If you work for a company, however, there are still ways you can free up more cash to get your financial house in order (without impacting your retirement investments).

Here are a few:

Tip #1:
Ask the payroll department at your workplace to redirect part of your paycheck to a new savings account you set up (ask your bank for an account that’s free of fees). Decide on the bare minimum you really need in your paycheck, then redirect the remainder. Use that growing savings account to pay down small debts.

Tip #2:
Add up your discretionary expenses (eating out, buying home décor or clothes, ordering random stuff on Amazon) and for a designated period of time - say, three months, stop all discretionary spending. Eat at home, make do with the clothes you have, and forego those projects that require online buying. At the end of the 90 days, you’ll likely have more in your bank account to use toward paying off a bill or even eliminating a small debt.

Tip #3:  This has worked great for me!
Start selling stuff on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or gazelle.com (for older smartphones & devices). Decluttering junk drawers, the garage, and/or your bedroom closet not only makes your living space feel more tranquil, the extra money will have a calming effect on your financial stress, too!

Tip #4:  Here's one you may not have realized was even an option:
Call the credit card issuers you have now to ask for a 0%-for-one-year-rate, then create a plan to pay off your credit cards within that one year. Consolidate your other balances onto a single card and aggressively pay it off. This will save you monthly interest, but you must be disciplined enough to meet your goal in one year or less. Once your credit cards are paid off, your monthly cash-flow will immediately increase—which allows you to start making financial plans for the future: building an emergency fund, saving for a home, paying down student loans, and investing for retirement.

Tip #5:  This is my favorite!
Pick up a side hustle. For a few months, several times a year, or nights & weekends, take on small projects, a second job, or a side hustle like seasonal tax preparation, driving for Uber or Lyft, helping a caterer with premium events or joining a Network Marketing Company with a product, program or service that you are passionate about. Recent reports say that 1 in 3 Americans has a side hustle—it’s just one way people are adding extra cash flow to their lives. Creating multiple streams of income is not only smart - it's really important. The last year has certainly made that very clear.

Of course, finding more cash to eliminate your immediate financial headaches is only a part of the process of creating balance in your financial life (and other areas of your life, too).

Let's face it - when your finances are out of whack, the stress overflows into every aspect of your life.
Security for the future is compromised.
The ability to have fun is diminished.
Hear this - Financial problems is pretty much always listed on the top 5 causes of divorce - and divorce certainly doesn't typically improve ANYONE's finances. Right?

If you think working with a coach to keep you on track and accountable for results is something that would get you to a balanced life faster, I’m here to help.

MONEY STRESS. It’s time to calm the chaos in your finances. Part 1

Have you ever wondered what it would take to calm the chaos and restore sanity in your financial life?

Ya, I know. It's a rhetorical question. 😉

From product subscriptions you no longer use . . . to streaming services you rarely watch . . . to payments on sports equipment or consumer goods you don’t have time for anymore, some charges hang out on our monthly credit card statement until even our “minimum payment” is overwhelming.

It’s time to calm the chaos in your finances.

Here's a good place to start:

Grab the last 12 months of credit card statements and review your monthly, quarterly, and annual subscriptions.

• Cancel any services or subscriptions you’re not using

• Downgrade to a cheaper plan if you actually need less, including your phone service, your annual-fee credit card, even your parking pass.  (Be careful: changes to health insurance plans may trigger negative consequences.)

• Ask if there are newer payment plans that charge less, but deliver more (you’d be surprised)

• Return leased equipment (like that extra cable box) and other items you’re not using,  but are being charged for

You can begin to lower your stress level by decluttering your credit card statement and taking control of your monthly expenses.

Do this before you tackle the biggest headache for most people: debt.

It’s easy to calm the chaos and restore sanity to your finances.
All it takes is a system and an accountability partner. That’s where I can help.

THE POWER OF FOCUS. Re-Ignite Your Dreams.

“Don’t settle for ordinary when extraordinary is within you.”

I love this simple quote from The OolaGuys—authors Dave Braun and Troy Amdahl—who remind us that we were designed by God for greatness. Each of us is here for a specific purpose.

If you’ve lost sight of your dreams or are going through a rough patch, remember that where you are now is not where you’re destined to stay.

Tell yourself daily: This is just where I am. It’s not who I am.

The key is to start dreaming again.
Rediscover what you really want from life.
Explore a calling that you’re passionate about.
Then, start a committed path to achieving that life.
But, above all, stay focused. And if you find, once the clutter of life is over for the day, you've done nothing to move your life closer to your goals, recommit to staying focused and create a task list for tomorrow that will move you closer to your goals.

Also realize that some goals are so big, they won’t be completed in a few weeks.

Be patient.
Be persistent.
But also be disciplined enough to continue doing those things that will create the extraordinary life you were born to live.

If you’ve been following my posts over the last month, you know that—right now—you have a unique opportunity to create an amazing future.

The key is to stay focused on getting it.

And “staying focused” is a major part of what the transformational Oola Coaching Program can help you do.
Coaching can help you remove the clutter and obstacles in your life that are holding you back from following your heart.

When we begin to eliminate the stress and chaos, the crushing weight of debt, the toxic people and other anchors from our lives, our true selves begin to emerge.
We start to get a glimpse of what's inside of us, and our heartfelt passions come to light.

Coaching can also help you rediscover your dreams and true calling . . . a major stepping stone on the way to living the OolaLife.

So if the past year has caused you to re-think your lifestyle, your finances, your health, your relationships and your future, we should jump on a call to discuss what you want your passionate new life to look like.

It’s what I help clients with, and it would be my honor to work with you, too.
